The Wilson Street stage at the Newtown Festival has been around for a bunch of years now and was recently handed over to Death Ray records. Death Ray’s Apa Hutt carries on the Wilson Street tradition by showcasing indie music from Wellington and NZ. The bro has put some effort into having more wahine musicians up on stage and more importantly he has booked mostly bands that live in -or have lived and made music- in Newtown. Newtown is one of the centers for musical creativity in NZ and this year we have some rad local bands playing rock n roll, psychedelia, indie, sludgy stoner doom, feminist, garage and surf punk rock.
This year the ‘Thing-O-Rama’ stage is also situated outside Death Ray records in Wilson Street, hosting acts from 4pm between band set ups for the Wilson Street stage. We at Death Ray think ya’ll gonna dig this dope line up of sick local bands. We all party party here so if you want some party, come to Wilson street for some rock n roll yo!
